The Japanese covered bridge of Hoi An, built in the 17th century, in the UNESCO old town
— Hoi An, Vietnam

Hoi An is for living. Here you rest.

Twelve minutes from a UNESCO old town, with a coconut grove between your villa and the sea.

A port that never became a ruin

Hoi An was one of the great trading ports of Southeast Asia between the fifteenth and the nineteenth century, and it survived because the river silted up and the traffic moved to Da Nang. Nobody had a reason to knock it down and build again. What is left is merchant houses in wood, assembly halls, a covered bridge the Japanese quarter put up to reach the Chinese one, and shops still doing business inside all of it.

UNESCO listed it in 1999 and it is still a town that works rather than a museum: tailors who cut to measure and finish in a day, workshops, a market, and a river that changes completely once the light drops. Twelve minutes from the villa.

What is around, and how far

Times by car unless it says otherwise. Nothing here is more than an hour away — except the island, which takes a day and a boat.

01

Hà My beach · at the door

Where the counting starts, and the only thing on this list you reach on foot: the grove ends and the sand begins.

02

Hoi An Old Town · 12 min

About 8 km inland, and the reason this stretch of coast is worth the booking. UNESCO World Heritage since 1999.

03

Marble Mountains · 15 min

Five limestone hills on the road to Da Nang, with pagodas cut into the caves inside them and the whole coast visible from the top.

04

Da Nang airport · 25 min

About 20 km up the coast road. It is where everyone lands, and it is better connected than most people expect of a city this size.

05

Da Nang · 30 min

The city itself, about 25 km away: a long beach, the river and the bridges over it, and dinner that is not in a hotel.

06

My Son Sanctuary · 55 min

The brick towers the Cham kingdom raised in a valley inland. It is the second UNESCO site within an hour of the hotel.

07

Ba Na Hills · 60 min

Up in the mountains behind Da Nang, reached by cable car. Count on a full day, and on it being cooler up there.

08

Cham Island · a day

Cù Lao Chàm, a biosphere reserve off this coast. You go out by boat in the morning and you are back the same evening.

The beach in front, the old town inland

The hotel is on Hà My beach, on the stretch that runs north from An Bang towards Da Nang. The old town is inland to the south; the airport is up the coast the other way. Everything on this page hangs off the same road.

Twelve minutes to the old town, twenty-five to the airport, thirty to Da Nang. One road, and it is flat the whole way — which is why half of Hoi An gets around on a bicycle.

And then you come back

That is the other half of the arrangement. You spend the day in town and you come back to the grove: dinner at Faifo, an hour at the Bamboo Spa, and a beach with nobody on it. Hà My runs north from An Bang towards Da Nang, and the day trips do not stop here.

The sand starts where the grove ends: you walk out of the villa to the sea without crossing a public road. It is one of the least built-up stretches between Hoi An and Da Nang, and it does not carry the crowds of the beaches closest to town.

Discover Hoi An

What the town eats, what it makes with its hands, and the hour worth walking in.

01

What the town eats

Cao lầu is only made in Hoi An, nowhere else in the country. Around it: chicken rice, phở, fresh rolls with herbs from Trà Quế, and bánh mì from a cart. Faifo cooks the same dishes if you would rather not move.

02

What the town makes

Tailors who cut to measure and finish in a day, workshops where the silk lanterns are assembled by hand, and Trà Quế, the herb village that supplies the kitchens around here.

03

When to walk in

Late afternoon, when the light drops and the lanterns go on. If your dates fall on a full moon, the whole town is lit by lanterns that night.

Everyone lands at Da Nang

Da Nang (DAD) is the airport for this coast and it is better connected than most people expect. South Korea has been its first source market since 2016 and China is the one growing fastest; long-haul comes in through Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or a regional hub.

From the terminal the road runs down the coast: 25 minutes, about 20 km. The centre of Da Nang is 30 minutes the other way. Send us your flight number when you book, whatever hour it lands, and reception will tell you how to cover those 20 km.

Getting here, the beach and the right month

How do I get to the hotel from Da Nang airport?

Da Nang (DAD) is the airport for Hoi An and the one every guest lands at. It is 25 minutes away, about 20 km, along the coast road; the city centre of Da Nang is 30 minutes. Send us your flight number when you book, whatever hour it lands, and reception will tell you how to cover those 20 km.

How far is the old town of Hoi An?

12 minutes, about 8 km. The old town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 and is still a working town rather than a museum. Marble Mountains are 15 minutes away, My Son Sanctuary 55 and Ba Na Hills 60.

What is Hà My beach like?

Hà My is one of the best preserved stretches between Hoi An and Da Nang, and one of the quietest: open sand and a coconut grove behind it, with far fewer people than the beaches next to town. The access is direct from the resort: you walk out through the coconut grove without crossing any public road. Two things worth knowing before you swim: bathing is only allowed in the marked safe area, and there is no lifeguard — the sea is your own responsibility.

When is the best time to come?

The hotel is open all year. Central Vietnam has a dry season and a wet one, and the difference matters more here than on the beaches further south. Tell us your dates before you book and we will tell you honestly what the coast is like that week.

Are there bicycles, and can I cycle into Hoi An?

The hotel has bicycles, free, every day, for getting around inside the resort — they stay inside it. Hoi An is another matter, and a good one: it is the way half the town moves, and the coast road is flat all the way, 8 km of it with the rice fields on one side. If you want a bike to ride in, ask us when you book and we will tell you how to get hold of one.
